The 1st May is the start ofthe Morris dancing season and most sides will be out dancing up the sun to make sure that it rises for the rest of the year. As in 2024, we decided it was better to dance down the sun as getting up early (sunrise was around 5.30) is hard and the pubs are not open till later!

So our first dance out was in Boscastle harbour, outside our new sponsor’s establishment, the excellent Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. It was a lovely warm evening and we pulled a good crowd of onlookers.
We started the evening with our Ow Tevi going straight into a Bear Down Man. This was followed by two new dances, unique to us, Tides and Harbourside. An energetic Upton-upon-Severn was followed by Boscastle Breakdown then we had a short musical interlude.

At this point, we encouraged the audience to help us call our beast back from the sea. The Boscastle Border Morris ‘beast’ is a selkie called Morsterren who joined us for the dancing after overwintering in the sea.

Cider Stomp, Lovers’ Green, Foreman’s Holiday and Tin Miners completed the main dancing, all of those are dances unique to us, as is some of the music. We finished, as usual, with a Tinners’ Rabbit by us and another with audience participation.
Eleven dances (including the Ow Tevi) of which eight are unique to us and 4 of those were new this season – not at all bad!
A fabulous evening, finished off at The Cobweb!
