Black Prince Flower Boat Festival

Despite it being on the South Coast and quite a drive from Boscastle, we were delighted to accept an invitation to dance at this lovely festival. The weather leading up to the event was dreadful but on the day we were blessed with glorious sunshine! The festival is spread over a wide area and includes local primary school dancers, quite a number of Morris sides, a few supporting Town Criers and a navy recruit contingent to carry the boat.

It was great to dance with other sides and watch their moves as well as showing off our new, and old, dances. A large audience at each stop on the procession, and outside the various pubs, seemed genuinely to enjoy the spectacle. It was a particularly tiring day, early start, lots of walking and dancing (some of it on steep slopes!) and a bit of a walk back to the cars at the end of the day.

All in all, a glorious and most enjoyable day … thank you to the organisers for the invite and for making it all run so smoothly, and thank you to Mark Wylie, the Calne Town Crier who looked after us so well …. here’s to next year!!
